Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla fromed Escalandrum  sextet in 1999. The group's name comes from the combination of escalandrún (a species of shark from Argentina that "Pipi" fishes with his father Daniel-family activity initiated by his grandfather Astor-), and drum.

The same year, he released his first album Escalandrum, Bar Los Amigos with strong influences of latin jazz and a very good reception from the local press.

In 2001, with the release of their second album Altered States (presented with great success in the theater ND / Ateneo de Buenos Aires), the group won in the category Revelation in several major music awards. At this point, since they can be seen oriented in finding personnel and acoustic sound.

In 2004 comes the third installment, and moving Sextet Escalandrum longer revelation to be confirmed as one of the finest exponents of jazz made in Argentina. The group departs from the genre known paths to integrate with urban rhythms and folk airs.

That same year, the Foundation places the group Konex among the hundred most important figures of the last decade of popular music in Argentina.

The fourth album, Mystery, is a solid album with a modern sound that takes the group to perform in the most eclectic festivals in Argentina and the world since its launch in 2006. Arriving in 2007, to represent the country music market in Barcelona VIC.

In June 2008, the sextet edit Visions, where it reaches an original compositional and interpretative maturity, creating a disc unavoidable within the new Argentine jazz scene.

2011 finds the group with 12 years of experience, having toured the main sites in Argentina and more than twenty countries, far exceeding its kind in each presentation. And as a corollary, presenting his latest work, the remarkable Piazzolla plays Piazzolla, unique piece that joins tango and jazz in a fluid. It's tribute to the great Astor Piazzolla (Pipi's grandfather) on the 90th anniversary of his birth.

Escalandrum's Piazzolla plays Piazzolla officially launched in Buenos Aires at the Teatro Gran Rex, with the special participation of Paquito D'Rivera and Susana Rinaldi, received widespread significance of  public and  press, and a nomination for the Latin Grammy Awards in the category Best Instrumental Album.
